UoC part 1

 Hey Guys,

Welcome to a  journey to a place that was my home for the past two years. Anybody can join in this journey ( let's breathe some really fresh air). This is a small tour through my favourite places at the University of Calicut.

Just come in with me.

Oh! before that, don't you see the two buildings across the road? The one on the left is the Tagore Nikethan, which is always packed with students from various colleges (this is the place from where you meet some of your old buddies). The one on the right is the Management studies block (of course not my area, but have some really valuable friends over there). The most beautiful sight to behold here is the carpet of yellow flowers that blooms quite unexpectedly and spread the cheer among the fellow students and passersby.

Let's get in...

The first people you may see are the security guards, wave an "hai" or smile to them (mark my words, they are really friendly when you do that). Okay, with that, let's move forward, on the left side we see the EMS Seminar hall. Don't think this is a place solely meant for academic purpose, because you may be wrong, for this place had witnessed the most wonderful musical concerts, gazals and Sufi nights. This one place holds a lot of memories, new acquaintances, everything new, and a little bit more.

The next thing you see when you take the road to the left is the hotel or the canteen( I really don't know how to address this place). Here you get food to eat( that's a lot better, I think). Even though this isn't my favourite food court, on rare occasions I had food with some special friends from here. If we go straight, the building over the right...Oh, yeah! you can read the board. That's the men's hostel, wondering why this building is so silent? maybe the boys aren't there. You can see them in the students' trap or before the gate of the ladies hostel or maybe hanging around here and there with friends.

Turn around let's go back to the main road, I'll take you to some other places. Walk along... Can you see that ATM? This place might not be special for many, but for us it is. By "us" I mean "my people." This is one of the places that had seen all our crazy kinds of stuff. Memories are just flooding in and I just can't choose which to tell. The next place we reach is the Pareeksha Bhavan( PB, that's the pet name). One advantage of a university student is that we have easy access here ( most of our old friends remember us just because of this!!!). All the inquiries are tiresome but PB has been a reason for many of us to meet our friends from degree. The food courts around PB has got some delicious food items. Some evenings were the best, just because of some hot tea and snacks served with love.

What about a  cup of coffee?

So... now we are moving to a place which is where you can see a lot of people, especially during the evenings. Hey, look... over there on the other side... that's the parking lot. I know you are thinking what's so special about a parking area. You see the benches? They are the brainstorming benches( CU mates don't laugh). Obviously, they are not brainstorming for all. As you see those benches are the best place for chitchatting, arguing, discussing, sharing the love... Those benches helped me in finding topics and titles for my assignments and seminars. So now you know why I call them brainstorming.

Now to our most precious place...

Do you see that tree next to the photostat shop? Yes, the one with the seating arrangement. Under this greenwood tree did our friendship bloom...where we met new people... where the circle widened... Ask the leaves, ask the trunk or u just ask the roots... They would say how happily a bunch of students spent their time here. On the last day, we had at the campus March 10, 2020 ( hopefully not the last) our night was spent here... talking, arguing, singing, sleeping...without knowing that those would be the most cherished moments...

Let's sit down here for a while and resume our walk later, let's just breathe in some happy, peaceful air...

PS: UoC is indeed a vast place and every single place and the bundle of memories that come along with it is so special. Just pause with me. Let's resume our walk in my next blog...wait and let these details set in...
